"The Green Lantern""The Green Lantern"3 1/2 stars

While I won't compare “The Green Lantern” to any of the recent comic book adaptations that have impressed me beyond measure (“Spider-Man 2”, “The Dark Knight” and “Iron Man”), “The Green Lantern” certainly entertained me more than I expected it to, especially within the realm of DC Comics adaptations. I liked it more than just a little bit, and I expect some negative feedback on this review, based on the general consensus that the film is what many would consider 'a dog'.

'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'

"X-Men Origins: Wolverine""X-Men Origins: Wolverine"2 stars

So this is it! My first ever movie review for my brand new Movie Blog *holds for applause*. So I thought what better way to start off my blog than with the kick off to this year's testosterone filled summer, "X-men Origins: Wolverine". Well it turned out to be not much of a kick off for me unfortunately.

'Watchmen'

Zack Snyder's "Watchmen""Watchmen"2 stars

I will begin by clarifying (as everyone else does) whether I am a reader and a fan of the original “Watchmen” graphic novel. I am. I cannot speak for the value of Snyder's picture from the perspective of someone ignorant to its source material.

It surprises and dismays me that there are others who are familiar with Alan Moore's original and still approve wholly of Zack Snyder's film.

I can't see why.

'Underworld: Rise of the Lycans'

"Underworld: Rise of the Lycans""Underworld: Rise of the Lycans"

“Movies I Wouldn't Pay to Fucking See But Did"

Whoa, what piece of shit.

I could barely see anything on the LCD screen I was watching this turd on. Oh, by the way, while the title of this is "Movies I wouldn't pay to fucking see but did," I saw them but didn't pay for them, and if I paid to see this I would have been fucking livid with rage. Not just calling the movie a piece of shit, but I think I'd actually find whoever produced this film and hold them personally responsible and demand that I personally get to waste an hour and a half of their time for the hour and half that they stole from my life.

'Ultraviolet'

Kurt Wimmer's "Ultraviolet""Ultraviolet"3 stars

Kurt Wimmer's previous film, "Equilibrium", was a film which, as I recall, was very well directed by someone with such little experience. The action was unique, and director Wimmer infused every scene with an unbelievable amount of energy. Creating an original concept involving a technique called Gun-Kata, a close combat fighting style involving guns as close range weapons, was original and certainly provided a great stage for Wimmer to stretch his directorial muscles in the action arena. It was a thoroughly enjoyable film.

'Transformers'

Michael Bay's "Transformers""Transformers"4 stars

Many, many years ago, long before Critical-Film.com was even conceived, I had developed another website, WaldoPitt.com. The title was obviously nothing spectacular and made no suggestion to the site's content, it was simply drawn from both my and the conceptual partner of the site's last names. The subject matter was strictly anything related to classic cartoons, primarily of the 80's; cartoons such as "G.I. Joe", "He-Man", and obviously "Transformers". You can understand then, that I have a certain appreciation for the subject matter (as I'm sure do most of you) and I was terrified that Michael Bay was going to butcher one of the most beloved cartoons of our childhood. It seems my negative anticipation was unnecessary, as "Transformers" is far and away the best big budget blockbuster we've seen this year.

'Protector, The' aka 'Tom yum goong'

"Tom yum goong" aka "The Protector""The Protector" aka "Tom yum goong"4 stars

Muay Thai is an incredibly violent looking style of fighting. I was floored by the intensity of Tony Jaa's attacks in "Ong-bak", and "Tom-yum-goong" is no different. Like "Ong Bak", the action is incredible. The main difference is that "Tom-yum-goong" has a (slightly) better story, as well as being even more action-packed. By ‘action-packed', I simply mean the sheer number of enemies who face the Muay Thai wrath of Tony Jaa.

'Terminator Salvation'

McG's "Terminator Salvation""Terminator Salvation"2 1/2 stars

You know, out of all the films that were coming out this summer, I was, oddly enough, looking most forward to this film, "Terminator Salvation". It had a lot of good things going for it; it was finally going to take the film series to the future in a post apocalyptic setting (so many themes and Sci-fi fun can be made from that), put the very talented Christian Bale as John Connor and the underrated Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese, and finally was going to tell the story of the war of man vs the machines. I was sooooo looking forward to this movie for the last year, ever since I saw the trailer before seeing "The Dark Knight". But then the bad omens started showing up. A few months ago I discovered the film was going to be directed by McG, the guy who did the God awful "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" movie and then even worse, just hours before seeing the movie, I discovered that the writers for "Catwoman" had done the screenplay for this film. Yet still I said to myself “Oh c'mon it can't be that bad,” unfortunately I was very wrong.

'Taken'

"Taken""Taken"4 stars

Considering the basic plot behind "Taken" has been recycled at least a thousand times since the 1985 Schwarzenegger film "Commando", it is a pleasant surprise that Pierre Morel's film entertains its audience as well as it does. The film is completely enthralling and quite simply an incredibly enjoyable movie-going experience.

'Superman Returns'

Bryan Singer's "Superman Returns""Superman Returns"3 1/2 stars

I have to admit that I am a DC guy. I never cared nearly as much about the 'X-men' or 'The Fantastic Four', as I did about 'Batman' and 'Superman'. I found the Marvel characters as well as the lore to be second-rate when comparing them to DC. One of the reasons for this identification, I would have to believe, is the original cinema of 'Superman' that entertained me (and I suppose continues to) with its fantasy and innocent charm.
